The Run at the “FARM”
By Doug Stevenson
With minor body damage we all survived The Farm last month. There were 11 Jeeps
that made the trek out to Becket for the run. I don't have everyone's last name
but here's the list of who made it. Kelly and myself, Roy Arruda, Mike and
Rosemary, Kurt Klopp, Nick Carney, Jeff Roderick, T.J. Tanner, Andy, Mike, Jon
Watson, and Chris Schuch.
We arrived at the trailhead at 10:15am. Aired down and
disconnected, broke into two groups.
I took one group down the "stocker" trail and Kelly walked Chicken Bone trail
with TJ and Chris in their Jeeps behind her armed with chainsaws. (There was a
tree down about 1/2 way in on the trail) The rest followed them in.
The Stocker trail proved somewhat challenging for my group
yet we managed to come out of it OK. The sideshow was Nick taking his XJ into
the mini mud bog and proceeding to sink up to and beyond his rockers in the mud.
I came around the front side and tried to winch him out but he wouldn't budge.
Roy ended up winching him out from the backside which meant bring the winch
cable over a small hill to attach it to Nicks Jeep.
Chicken Bone proved far worse for the others. In the two + hours we played on
the Stocker trailed and stopped for lunch they had only made it 1/2 way in. Far
more technical with rocks and hill climbs and other things, Chicken Bone proved
no easy task for anyone, although Jeff did very well.
The rocks sure looked bigger to me this time out.
No breakage but plenty of undercarriage scrapes. Although there were two broken
side marker lenses, I know Jeff had one and I might have broke one on TJ’s
Rubicon when I was driving it. Trees keep moving onto the trail.
All in all a good day, we headed out about 6:30 pm for home.
