Rausch Creek
August 16 - 20, 2017

This is not an "Official" Baystate Jeepers run.
As such, non-member guest vehicles are allowed and encouraged! Invite your friends.

Rausch Creek is a "Bucket List" destination for Eastern U.S. Wheelers. Whether you've been to Rausch Creek or not, this is a trip not to be missed! There's something for everyone. Rausch offers 31 different trails to explore on over 3000 acres ranging from miles of stocker friendly trails and roads to hard core.

Important:
Unlike Field & Forest, BSJ does not reserve a group camping area. It is up to each member to reserve their own camp site. On site camping is included at no additional cost.

Rausch Creek is a "pay-to-play" park. Visit their website for details regarding fees at:
http://rc4x4.org

Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/RnKz8wbGdPG2
GPS Co-Ordinates: 40.606644, -76.444429

I have confirmed that there currently is a NO ban on camp fires or fires for the purpose of cooking.

For those who prefer not to rough it, there are several hotels in the area, approximately 10 miles away. If interested in a hotel, I recommend booking early. Hampton Inn, Econo Lodge, Knights Inn and a Comfort Inn are your closest choices. Let us know and we may be able to arrange someone to place a mint on your pillow.

Some may choose to drive down after work and arrive after sunset. We'll be there, ready to give you a hand to get you quickly get setup at camp. A Thursday or Friday arrival day is absolutely fine, too, so join up with us.

Our schedule for the weekend is . . .

Wednesday: Meet at the Charlton rest area on the Mass Pike at 10:00 AM. The 5.5-6 hour drive is ~320 miles which will put us at Rausch at approximately 4 PM. This will allow us time to set up camp, gather a heap of fire wood, cook a hearty dinner and have a well deserved beverage around the blazing campfire.

Thursday: After breakfast, check in at the office, pay admission fee and head off into the wild for a great day of wheeling. Make our way back to our campsite around sunset, whip up some grub for dinner and enjoy an evening around the campfire.

Friday: Another full day of wheeling from breakfast until dinner!

Saturday: Day 3 of some really great wheeling!

Sunday: Have a leisurely breakfast, break camp, pack up and hit the road for the drive home.

I was looking forward to going but I have to go out to California for work for the week. A small group is fine for a place like that.

As it isn't a sponsored BSJ run, those who plan on going determine whether or not it's a "go" and there is no minimum number as far as the club is concerned. Although there is with Rausch Creek itself. They have a two rig minimum. A small group is fine, as long as they want to do the same type trails as you. If one wants tough and the other mild, you are kind of stuck unless you meet up with someone there.

The first year I went, there was only 4 of us. You get to cover a lot more ground, and explore a lot of the park. It's a great time!

I'm going to throw out the idea of going back to the "old" way: Early October Rausch trip when the nights are cool, the foliage is out, and busy summer schedules are long gone. I used to always make that trip :-) Not a fan of 90+ degree heat and humidity when camping!

Not suggesting you cancel this trip but just throwing out a suggestion for the future!

Looks like a group of 4 of us hitting Rausch this time.
- Kurt K.(me)
- Kathe
- Mike D.
- Tony D.

Mike D. will be meeting us at the park later Wednesday.
So... Myself, Tony and Kathe will plan on meeting up at the Charlton rest stop on the Mass Pike at or slightly before 10:00.

Remember it's primitive camping. All that's there is a spot to pitch your tent, a fire ring and porta-potties.
You'll need to bring everything else including water, food, utensils, stove, pots-n-pans, etc.
I have an oven in my trailer if anyone wants to use it. I'll also have a gas grill if you want to grill anything on it.
Don't forget to bring a chair!

I will have my hot water shower setup. All I ask is that you provide your own water. 5 gallon water containers work great! Water and some food items available at a truck stop about 10 minutes away from Rausch.
