Re: Electrical gremlins

So the Jeep is back working. Maybe my own amateurish experience can help someone else: After trying to start it again there was almost no juice in the battery, and I also noticing that the battery was 6 years old so I started with a new battery. Jeep started and ran just fine. Driving to the store (...

Electrical gremlins

Hi, My Jeep has not been feeling quite right for the last few months, maybe because it didn't get to go wheeling much lately. Yesterday the alternator warning light came on briefly. On my way to the store today the whole system went nuts. ABS, anti-skid, ESP BAS, fuel, air bag, sway bar, you name it...

Re: New project selected

Disassembled, a lot of rust removed (like needle scaler amounts and my driveway being red), and swap kits welded on (yes, outsource). Next it's time to pick gears, lockers, etc. and do the machining to switch from 8 on 170 to 8 on 6.5. Front it should be no problem since there are aftermarket unit b...

To spool or not to spool

Hi, I am building a set of junk yard super duty axles for my JK and considering whether or not to just put a spool in the rear axle. The last few runs I have been running with the rear axle locked to whole time and it doesn't seem to annoy me too much. While the turning radius gets a bit worse I can...

Re: The Horror with Stealerships...

I used to go to the same dealer 5+ years ago, and the two jobs they did they both screwed up: - Fix the parking brake -- When I backed out after paying for the service, the shoes were way too tight and I could just barely back out. Back in to fix. - My starter is making a weird clunking noise -- Imm...

Re: JKU Oil Catch Can

I had no idea. I have been referring to my diesel truck as an oil burner seems the Jeeps aren't far behind.

Re: New project selected

Thank you Mark and Kurt, I just realized both of you replied.

Kurt, any day after 2pm would work. The project I am on at work is on UK time so no meetings after 2pm.

Re: New project selected

Anyone around Hopkinton, MA have a cherry picker I could borrow for a day?

I stripped everything except the axle shafts off (don't want the oil all over my truck) and we still can't lift it on two people.

Re: New project selected

Planning on doing all the work myself except maybe the final welding. Align and tack it up myself and then have "Ken's axle guy" do the final welding. He estimates $600 for the welding work.

Re: New project selected

Back of an envelope I think it will be just north of 50% of what off the shelf would be assuming I go high end components (e.g. ARB lockers vs. Detroit), but I am doing it just as much for the learning experience.
